I turned 66 earlier this month. Am 5'6\" and weigh about 183, which is overweight I know. This is my bench workout 3 x a week: all reps at 102 lbs. including bar, plates and collars. 45 reps, 1 min rest, 15 reps, 45-50 sec. rest, 15 reps, 35 sec. rest, then 10 reps. How is that
Given your age and BFP, you probably have a pretty fast metabolism. To start, try eating 1lb of protein per lb of body weight, so for you, about 145g of protein a day. This means youre going to have to eat even when you dont want to. Also, try progressive overload. Find out the highest weight you can do 5 reps of for 4 sets. No less than 4 minutes rest in between sets. The longer rest period allows you to regenerate your explosive energy. Once you can do 5 reps for 4 sets, add 5 lbs to your bench on the next chest day and dont increase the weight until you get 5 reps, 4 sets of that new amount of weight. As for consistency, do chest day once every 4 days, roughly twice a week. So if chest is Monday, next will be Friday, etc. Do the same thing with incline bench (your incline bench will naturally be weaker than your flat so dont get discouraged, just remember the 5rep 4set rule). Dont forget incline dumbell press, cable flys and incline dumbell flys. These workouts I do higher reps of, usually 8-12 reps and 4 sets. I always do 4 different exercises minimum, but I do triceps on the same day and alternate between the two so feel out what works best for you. Remember, eat more, and progressive overload. Good luck!
